Important Travel Advice

With 35,000 attendees expected at the Everest Race Day ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.   

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line or to Kensington on the L3 Line, which is within short walking distance of the racecourse. Extra light rail services will be running to help you get to and from the event. Tickets include travel on public transport.  See the Randwick Racecourse transport map (pdf 371KB) for more information. 

If you’re driving, there’s parking on-site at the racecourse. If you’re using taxis or rideshare, use the dedicated drop-off areas available.  

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads around the racecourse, particularly when leaving as a concertgoers travel to an event at nearby Allianz Stadium. Allow some extra travel time, you can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Ticketing information 

Valid pre-purchased tickets to Everest Carnival 2024 race days at Randwick Racecourse between 21 September and 5 November (inclusive) include travel to and from Royal Randwick Racecourse on the following transport services – just show your event ticket or ATC Members card to transport staff when boarding: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink services (bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) 
  • Sydney Buses 
  • Sydney Metro services. 
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services 
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries 

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.  

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham.  

At Wynyard or Central, connect with light rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.  

Change at Central for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. Alternatively, catch a L3 Line service to Kensington to get within walking distance of the racecourse. See the Randwick Racecourse transport map (pdf 371KB) for more information. 

Please note that planned weekend trackwork is taking place on the City Circle that may affect how you travel to and from the event. Trains will not run on the City Circle or between Wynyard and Central. Use the light rail or local buses to continue your trip to Royal Randwick. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place Saturday 26 October on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner 

  • City Circle: Trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Wynyard and Central. For travel around the City use the metro, light rail or local bus services. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: Trains run between Hornsby and Wynyard only. Trains will not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. Change at Wynyard for metro, light rail or local bus services. 
  • T1 Western Line: Penrith trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12 only, and make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only.  
  • T2 Leppington Line & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park, every 30 minutes. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 Western Line Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland. Trains run between Waterfall and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable, making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run between Lidcombe and Bankstown to a changed timetable, every 30 minutes. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains run between Macarthur and Sydenham only. Change at: Revesby for trains to Airport stations or Sydenham for T4 trains towards Bondi Junction, or metro services to the City. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport. 
  • T9 Northern Line: until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, to a reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. From 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.

A number of regular Sydney Buses travel between the city and eastern suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road, making stops near the racecourse, including routes 339, 374, 375 and 396.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 and L3 lines.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

At Central, connect with L2 or L3 Line light rail services to Royal Randwick or Kingsford stops (leaving from Chalmers Street) to get within walking distance of the racecourse. See the Randwick Racecourse transport map (pdf 371KB) for more information. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse. The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. Extra light rail services will be running to help you get to and from the event.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads around racecourse, particularly when leaving as a concertgoers also travel to an event at nearby Allianz Stadium.  

If you have to drive or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Taxi entry to Royal Randwick Racecourse is via the Ascot Street entrance where there is a secure taxi rank for drop offs and pick-ups. 

Please note that taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue. 

A dedicated drop-off zone will also be set up on the western side of Darley Road.  

Ride share exclusion zones: There will be restrictions on rideshare pick up locations from 3pm to 7pm due to expected heavy traffic in the area before, during and after the event. Pick-ups on sections of Alison Road, Ascot Street, King Street, John Lane and Doncaster Avenue will be restricted during this time. You will need to select a pick-up location away from the racecourse.

Parking

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. 

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times. 

Special Event Clearways 

Special event clearways will be in place at the following times and locations: 

  • 4am – 7pm: Darley Road between Alison Road and Centennial Park round-a-bout (western side) 
  • 8am – 7pm: Ascot Street between Doncaster Avenue and Randwick Racecourse Ascot Street entry (both sides) 
  • 3pm – 7pm: High Street between UNSW Gate 2 and Anzac Parade (southern side) 

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

Parking

Accessible parking: Disabled car parking is available in the Infield car park, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. A disabled parking sticker must be prominently displayed in the vehicle at all times.
