Travel offences, fines and penalties
The following behaviours are offences under the Passenger Transport (General) Regulation 2017 which can incur a fine.
- Persons must not use offensive language on metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail or coach services or at stations.
- Persons must not wilfully interfere with the comfort of others on metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail or coach services or at stations.
- Persons must not put their feet on seats on metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail or coach services or at stations.
- Persons must not smoke on metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail or coach services or at stations.
- People must not drink alcohol on metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail or coach services or at stations. Note, this does not apply if the alcohol was supplied by, or with the permission of, the operator of the train, bus or ferry concerned. Drink, in relation to alcohol, includes being in possession of an opened container of alcohol.
- Passengers must not distract bus drivers.
- Passengers must not block metro, train, bus or light rail doors.
- Persons must not obstruct ferry gang planks, wharves or stations.
