Important Travel Advice

Parramatta Lanes festival is a free event held over 16 sites throughout the Parramatta CBD including gardens, rooftop carparks and lanes. View the Parramatta Lanes event map website for more details.

All sites are easily accessible by transport in Parramatta. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead and consider the public transport options.

Trains and buses run regularly to Parramatta Station, which is a short walk from the festival site.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 

Roads will start closing from 1pm each day. Traffic will be heavier than usual approaching the area while roads are closed and local detours are in place. If you have to drive expect delays and allow extra travel time. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. 

Change at Central for a train service to Parramatta. Alternatively, change at Epping for a bus to Parramatta, or to a train to Strathfield to connect with trains to Parramatta.

The closest station to the event is Parramatta. Take the Parramatta Square exit to get to fesival venues.

Trackwork

Planned trackwor is taking place throughout the event on the following lines and may affect how you travel.Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

Weeknight – Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 October  

  • T1 Western Line: On Friday from 10.45pm, trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. 
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: On Friday from 10.45pm, buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Ashfield. Trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle only. Leppington trains run between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: On Friday from 10.45pm, buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Ashfield. Trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle only. Trains run between Liverpool and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 Western Line trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: On Wednesday from 11.50pm to 1.30am, some trains run to a changed timetable between Richmond or Leppington and Olympic Park only. Some trains start and end at Granville. You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey. 
  • South Coast Line: On Thursday from 9.20am to 2.15pm, buses replace trains between Port Kembla and Wollongong. Buses towards Wollongong may leave stations up to 15 minutes earlier than the normal train timetable. Trains run between Wollongong and the City to the normal timetable. 

Weekend – Saturday 26 October 

  • City Circle: Trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Wynyard and Central. For travel around the City use the metro, light rail or local bus services. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: Trains run between Hornsby and Wynyard only. Trains will not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. Change at Wynyard for metro, light rail or local bus services. 
  • T1 Western Line: Penrith trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12 only, and make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only.  
  • T2 Leppington Line & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park, every 30 minutes. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 Western Line Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland. Trains run between Waterfall and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable, making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run between Lidcombe and Bankstown to a changed timetable, every 30 minutes. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains run between Macarthur and Sydenham only. Change at: Revesby for trains to Airport stations or Sydenham for T4 trains towards Bondi Junction, or metro services to the City. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport. 
  • T9 Northern Line: Until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, to a reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. From 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.

Regular route buses 

A number of buses run to and from Parramatta Interchange, which is a short walk from festival sites. 

The free Parramatta CBD shuttle bus (Route 900) runs regularly in a loop of Parramatta CBD. However, please note the below service changes during the event and plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Bus diversions 

Route 900 services will be diverting and missing stops from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 October while roads are closed for the event. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

From 1pm to last service each day from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 26 October, buses will be diverting away from a section of George Street and O’Connell Street via Horwood Place, Phillip Street, Wilde Avenue and Victoria Road to return to route on O’Connell Street.

From first service until 10.30am each day from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 October, buses will divert away from Marsden Street via Victoria Road and Wilde Avenue to return to route on Phillip Street.

Check signs at stops for alternative location and allow extra travel time.

The closest wharf stop to the Parramatta CBD is Parramatta Wharf. 

Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Use the Trip Planner and consider the alternative public transport options available.

Please note, F3 Parramatta River ferries between Parramatta and Rydalmere may be affected by low tide and replaced by buses, check for updates here.

Parramatta Light Rail – Stage 1 Testing 

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 testing is now taking place seven days a week along the entire 12-kilometre route between Westmead and Carlingford, including in the Parramatta CBD, to ensure the safety and reliability of the network ahead of its commencement of passenger services later this year. Road conditions have changed and trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams. Read the news story for more information. 

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central to connect with T1 Western Line trains to Parramatta to get within walking distance of the event.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Change at Central to connect with T1 Western Line trains to Parramatta to get within walking distance of the event.

If you have to drive allow extra travel time and expect delays as roads will be closed with detours in place.

Motorists should also exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads in Parramatta CBD.

Road closures 

On Wednesday 23, Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 October 

  • From 3pm to midnight: Macquarie Street between Marsden Street and Horwood Place (eastbound) 
  • From 6pm to 10.30pm: Phillip Street between Marsden Street and Horwood Place (both directions) 

On Wednesday 23, Thursday 24 and Friday 25 October 

  • From 1pm to 1am: George Street between Marsden Street and Horwood Place (both directions) 

From 1pm Saturday 26 and to 5am Sunday 27 October 

  • George Street between Marsden Street and Horwood Place (both directions)

Parramatta car parks

Parking will be very limited and attendees are encouraged to catch public transport.  

If you have to drive, the following car parks are within walking distance of the event in Parramatta CBD: 

  • Eat Street Car Park*, via Horwood Place only during event. 
  • Justice Precinct Car Park, entry via Hunter Street 
  • Parramatta Station Car Park, entry via Wentworth Street 
  • Parramatta Leagues Club

*Note changes to Eat Street Car Park: ground level restricted access and rooftop level closed from 8am Monday 21 October through to 5pm Monday 28 October. Access into the Eat Street Carpark will be via Horwood Place ONLY with one way exit ONLY onto Erby Place 3pm to midnight daily during the event from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 October.

Street parking restrictions

There will be parking restrictions throughout the Parramatta CBD over event days, please read all signage carefully and travel with care. 

Parking will be removed from the following sites:

  • Macquarie Street: parking unavailable between Marsden Street and Church Street from 6am to 1pm daily from Thursday 17 to Wednesday 23 October. 
  • George Street: parking unavailable between Freemasons Lane and Horwood Place from 5pm Monday 21 October.

Attendees with mobility impairments or accessibility requirements can catch one of the regular route bus services that leave from bus stand A4 at Parramatta Interchange and make stops on O’Connell Street outside the stadium, including routes 600, 601, 603, 604, 606 and 706.

Accessible trips are shown in the Trip Planner with the wheelchair icon. You can select "accessible services only" in the Options to ensure you only see accessible services.
