Important Travel Advice

Big crowds are expected to attend the Community Open Day at RAAF Base Richmond on Saturday 26 October. Ticketholders are encouraged to catch public transport and leave the car at home as heavy traffic is expected on roads in the area as attendees travel to and from each session. 

The closest station to the event is Clarendon on the T1 Richmond Line. From the station, you can connect with event shuttle buses to RAAF Base Richmond. 

Please note that due to planned weekend trackwork, buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon, and trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only leaving every 30 minutes. You may need to catch a replacement bus or change trains to complete your journey to Clarendon. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching RAAF Base as ticketholders travel to and from each session. If you have to drive, Travel with your group and allow extra travel time. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Alternatively, consider parking at a nearby station and continuing your trip to by train to Clarendon Station to connect with event shuttle buses.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham.

Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. Change at Epping for trains to Strathfield to connect with services to Clarendon.

The closest station to RAAF Base Richmond is Clarendon on the T1 Richmond Line. From the station, connect with an event shuttle bus to get to the RAAF Base.

Trains will run every 30 minutes between Liverpool and Clarendon throughout the day.

Alternatively, if you have to drive consider parking at a nearby station commuter car park and continuing your trip to train. Nearby station commuter car parks with capacity include Seven Hills, Richmond, Blacktown, Schofields, Riverstone and Mulgrave station car parks.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 26 October on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

  • M1 Metro: Metro services continue to run between Tallawong, the City and Sydenham, but train trackwork on the City Circle and T1 North Shore Line may affect how you travel.
  • City Circle: Trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Wynyard and Central. For travel around the City use the metro, light rail or local bus services.
  • T1 North Shore Line: Trains run between Hornsby and Wynyard only. Trains will not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. Change at Wynyard for metro, light rail or local bus services.
  • T1 Western Line: Penrith trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12 only, and make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey.
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park, every 30 minutes. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 Western Line Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland. Trains run between Waterfall and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable, making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon. Trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only.
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run between Lidcombe and Bankstown to a changed timetable, every 30 minutes.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains run between Macarthur and Sydenham only. Change at: Revesby for trains to Airport stations or Sydenham for T4 trains towards Bondi Junction, or metro services to the City. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport.
  • T9 Northern Line: Daily until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, to a reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. Daily from 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.

Event shuttle buses

An event shuttle bus will run between Clarendon Station and RAAF Base Richmond from 8am until 4pm to help attendees get to and from the event.

The shuttle buses will pick-up and drop-off near Clarendon Tavern, on Racecourse Road. Follow signage and present a copy of your event ticket to board the service.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Please note that due to planned weekend trackwork, buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon, and trains run between Clarendon and Liverpool only.

At Central, catch a train service to Parramatta to connect with trains to Clarendon. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on approach to RAAF Base Richmond especially along Richmond Road, Windsor Road, Hawkesbury Valley Way and The Northern Road.

If you have to drive, allow plenty of extra travel time as delays are expected. Travel with your group and aim to arrive early to avoid the delays and secure parking.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks

Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours free parking each day. If you have a ticket to an event that includes free Park&Ride parking, use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator. If you use a Transport Connect account to access Park&Ride, the boom gate will automatically open as you leave the car park so you’ll need to request a refund in your account.
