Real-time trip updates and digital timetables for the Hunter and Lower North Coast

Bus passengers in the Hunter and Lower North Coast can now plan bus trips online and make better-informed travel decisions using digital timetable information and real-time updates.

The Transport Connected Bus program has made this possible by fitting all contracted buses in the region with state-of-the-art automatic passenger counting and vehicle tracking technology.

Passengers can now track the location of buses, view estimated arrival times at specific stops, see information about how full services are and find accessible buses.

For school services this means less worry for parents who can now view the location of school buses in real-time and confirm school bus pick-up and drop off times at a glance thanks to a range of digital tools and travel planning apps.

The NSW Government has been improving bus information through the Transport Connected Bus Program in rural and regional NSW since July 2020. Phase 1 delivered the technology for 430 services in Bega, Dubbo and Coffs Harbour and Phase 2 saw 1500 services benefit from TCB across the 14 regional areas of Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Forbes, Greater Nowra, Grafton, Griffith, Orange, Parkes, Port Macquarie, Queanbeyan, Tamworth, Tweed Heads and Wagga Wagga.

The Hunter and Lower North Coast is the first region to roll out for Phase 3 of the program. This will be followed by the North Coast, Southern Tablelands and Ulladulla, South East and Tablelands, Central West and Orana, Far West, New England and North West, and Riverina Murray, aiming for completion by the end of 2025.
