Orange is one of the most beautiful and exciting food and wine regions in Australia. Due to its cool climate and rich volcanic soils, the produce ranges from stone fruits and sheep's cheeses to fungi and grapes and about 40 cool-climate wineries operate in the area.
The area has many attractions, from historic buildings and streetscapes to cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and theatres. Stroll through the beautiful Orange Botanic Gardens covering over 17 hectares. The gardens feature an impressive native and exotic plant collection and include a traditional homestead garden, woodlands, heritage orchard and heritage rose garden.
Visit the Lake Canobolas Reserve located at the foot of Mount Canobolas which offers picnic facilities, camping areas, waterfalls and bush walking tracks. At the foot of Mount Canobolas is a large tranquil lake, a haven for native birds and other wildlife such as the echidna, where you can sail boats, swim and fish.
Pan for gold at nearby Ophir Reserve which is the site of Australia’s first payable gold field, dating from 1851. Picnic by the river and try your luck at fishing.

Getting to Orange
Orange is located in the Central West and Orana of NSW and is approximately 258 kilometres from Sydney.
The Dubbo XPT runs daily between Dubbo and Sydney and stops at Orange. On Mondays the Broken Hill Explorer runs between Broken Hill and Sydney and stops at Orange, coming back on Tuesday. In addition, NSW TrainLink runs daily services from Sydney to Lithgow with connecting coaches to Orange.
Getting around Orange
A comprehensive bus service operates throughout Orange and buses are available to outlying villages, extending to Mt Canobolas, Spring Hill, Millthorpe, Lucknow and Molong.
There is also a taxi service, hire car companies, coach tour operators and bicycle paths.
