Getting to and from Sydney Airport

Sydney Domestic and Sydney International Airports are easily accessible by train, bus, or taxi.

The train stations are right under the airport terminals, and trains run to and from Sydney Domestic and International Airports every day from 5am to midnight.

Bus services connect the airport to surrounding suburbs and nearby areas.

There are also taxi ranks at both airport terminals.

Transfer options: To transfer between Sydney Domestic Airport and Sydney International Airport, you can catch the T8 Airport South Line train service or route 420 bus service.

How to pay your fare

To pay your bus or train fare, you can use an Opal card, a contactless card or device, or purchase an Opal single ticket. Adult fares apply if you use contactless card or device.

You can get Adult and Child/Youth Opal cards, top up the balance of an existing Opal card and purchase Opal single trip tickets at airport train stations. Please note that if you need to top up at the Airport, a minimum top up amount of $35 applies.

If you are eligible for concession fares, you will need to apply for a Concession Opal or Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card online before you travel. You cannot get these Opal cards at the airport.

If you need to top up at the Airport train stations, there is a minimum top up of $35 required.

You can also top up:

Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip. It calculates Opal fares and includes the station access fee where applicable.

If you travel by train, you will also need to pay a station access fare.

Train

The T8 Airport & South Line services run frequently to and from Sydney Domestic and Sydney International Airports, with services every day between 5am and midnight.

  • At Domestic Station, take the lift/escalator near baggage carousel 1 in both Terminal 2 and 3.
  • International Station, from Terminal 1 Arrivals, exit at Exit A, turn right and head to the end. You can also use the lift/escalator near Check-In desk A.

When using train stations at Sydney Domestic Airport or Sydney International Airport, a station access fee is charged in addition to the train fare. Here's what you need to know:

  • The fee is automatically deducted from your Opal card or contactless payment, and it's added to the cost of an Opal Single trip ticket at time of purchase.
  • The station access fee is the same for Opal cards and, contactless payments but is higher for Opal single tickets. Train fares are more economical when using an Opal card or contactless payment.
  • The fee is charged by the Airport Link Company who privately-owns the airport stations.

Travel between airport stations

  • Between an airport station and Green Square: $11.43 + train fare)
  • Between an airport station and Mascot Station: $9.03 (+ train fare)
  • Between Sydney Domestic Airport Station and Sydney International Airport Station: $4.70 (+ train fare)

Opal benefits

Station access fees are not included in your Opal daily or weekly travel cap.

The Opal 60 minute transfer doesn't apply at Sydney Airport stations, so tapping off and on again within an hour will result in two journeys and two station access fees.
