The remarkable World Heritage Mungo National Park is a place rich in Aboriginal history. The Park holds the archaeological finds of Mungo Lady and Mungo Man, the world's oldest human cremations, along with 20,000 year old past human footprints.

The ‘Walls of China’ is a highlight of the park. Sculpted over time in sand and clay, imposing otherworldly formations have emerged. Venture further into the park and explore grassland nature trails, camp overnight and see kangaroos, emus and Outback birds.

The small village of Pooncarie on the banks of the Darling River is located just outside the Mungo National Park. Pooncarie has a classic Outback pub the Pooncarie Telegraph Hotel Motel, refreshments and groceries at the Port Pitstop Cottage and accommodation.

Getting to Mungo National Park

Mungo National Park is located in the Far West of NSW. The closest major towns to the Mungo National Park are Mildura, 122km to the south-west and Broken Hill, around 330km north-west.

From Mildura

The Park can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
